Yesterday, Genevieve, Audrey, Adelaide and I had a picnic at Mojave Narrows and then hiked during the afternoon. We had such a good time and the weather was wonderful. We also brought Bella and Maple along and they seemed to have a blast running around during our hike. During our picnic, a goose started walking closer towards us. Gen, being the animal lover, decided the poor goose looked hungry and brought it chips. Audrey and I were not as enthusiastic about it since we knew that would simply be the beginning – the goose would of course want more. Here she is tempting him.

Once the goose got too close for comfort, we released the hounds – really just our girly Aussies – and Bella and Maple chased it as it flew away. **No goose were harmed during our picnic, no need to alert PETA yet.**

We had a great time on the hike, but the dogs especially loved it – they run around, eat grass and even find the occasional pond to freshen up! You will also hear Addie hiccuping in the video.

We tried taking a group shot during the hike, but there was no good spot to place our camera, except broken trees on the ground. So that’s what we did! You will notice that the dogs are not in the picture – they were there, sitting where we had asked them to, but the grass and brush was too thick, so they are out of it!

Adelaide fell asleep towards the end of the hike and she was completely out – drool and snoring!

After the hike, we went to the playground where Addie got to swing and go down a slide with Auntie Audrey.

We had a great time and can’t wait to do it again!

…how delicious the contents of the box are in comparison to the box itself! She has been playing with it for the last 3 days, never once trying to open, though she has tried to grab the cookies pictured on the box – so cute!

We spent part of the afternoon at Corwin Park in Apple Valley since the weather was so beautiful – sunny, but not too hot. Addie went on a swing for the first time and loved it! Here are some pictures of our afternoon.

While taking about 100 pictures of Addie eating today, I caught a glimpse of her little teeth! She was chowing down on a piece of cantaloup – which she loves – and luckily opened her mouth wide enough, and long enough, for me to take a picture. Behold, her first two teeth.

Dear Adelaide,

You are now eight-months, which is crazy because that means you are getting closer to your first birthday. The last month was quite exciting because you learned how to say Mama! You typically say it when you are getting frustrated on the ground and want me to pick you up. You have also been calling my name when I am not feeding you fast enough – sometimes you are so hungry that you want the spoon in your mouth at all times! I really think that you have now connected that saying “mama” and saying “dada” means you are actually calling us, rather than babbling. The other night, you were sitting on the floor playing with your toys and you looked up at Derek and said “dada”. We were both so proud of you, our little chatterbox!

You are also enjoying many new foods again this month. I am a bit puzzled about one thing, though. For the last two weeks I have been giving you pieces of mango which you love. So, weird Mommy me, I decided to blend them so we can spoon feed them to you and you absolutely hate them. You make the funniest faces, but when it’s whole, you chow down on them just fine. Another new food this month was bread in the toasted form. That, you adore! In fact, when I have a bagel in the morning, you look at me and reach your hand out, as if to say “don’t you want to share that with me?”

You are now so big that we have started putting you in your new carseat when we go in Daddy’s car. You are still getting used to it but I think you like it alright. We have also started putting you in the cart when we go to the grocery store instead of transferring the carseat in the cart. You really enjoy that, especially having the freedom to look around and play with your toys. We enjoy it too because we get to show you off even more!

But the biggest thing that happened this month is that you began teething. You now have two little teeth, one which is almost completely out and the other still coming through the gum. I have tried to take pictures of them but you have not been very cooperative – you keep sticking your tongue out! I know it was painful for a few days, but you seem to be doing better now. You have already learned that you can bite things with them, and that it’s much more efficient when trying to eat a piece of apple, for instance.

Still no changes on the crawling front, but we are starting to suspect that you may just skip that and go straight for walking. You really enjoy standing and pulling up on things, and when we hold your hands, you want to walk towards us. Who knows what you will do next!

We love you so much little girl. The next couple of months are going to be busy ones so hang tight! Love you!

For the last 3 days, Adelaide has been sporting some of her cutest summer outfits because the temperature has been so wonderful, as high as the mid 80s. Until last night. I don’t know what happened, but the warm weather is somewhere else now! As I am writing this post, it is 38F and very windy. Today was so cold – again in California terms – that Derek made a fire and Adelaide was wearing her winter jacket when we went to do groceries. Hopefully the warm weather will return soon!

For the last few days, it has been much warmer around here which has been great fun since it means new clothing options! I had fun taking pictures of her this afternoon, looking cute in her new spring/summer outfit.

We watched Sammy tonight and he is so cute with Addie, always wanting to sit and play with her. He seems to get so proud when he makes her laugh, it’s adorable! Here they are playing together.

I have been trying a new hairstyle on Adelaide and I think it’s pretty cute. You have to understand something about Addie’s hair: it’s extremely long on the top and absurdly short on the sides and back. I am in fact wondering where the rest of her head will catch up with the growth seen on the top! To manage her mane, I tried the single ponytail which is pretty cute, but this week I thought I would try pigtails instead. This is no easy feat since Addie does not quite understand “please don’t move when I am styling your hair” but luckily, I discovered she is not very sensitive so the inevitable pull/yank does not seem to bother her. What do you think?

Note: Her top is one of the many we just got from Elizabeth. Rebecca has outgrown many of her summer clothes and Adelaide has been super lucky to get them! Thanks again Elizabeth!!

Adelaide  has been playing a lot more with her feet lately, grabbing them and even putting them in her mouth. It’s really cute to see her stare at them and talk to them. Here she is on the floor playing with her tootsies.

Since Monday, Adelaide has been teething – I guess she has been working on teething since she was born, but there’s noticeable progress now. Her bottom two front teeth have now cut through the gum and I suspect her two top front teeth are about to do the same, as her gums are really swollen and hard in that spot as well. Accompanying this new addition to her mouth are a slew of what I am told are normal symptoms of teething: uncontrollable drooling, runny nose and a short temper. It seems like the nights have been the worse and for the last two nights, she has woken up every 2-3 hours and is often inconsolable. I feel terrible for her, especially since it seems like they are all showing up at the same time. It has also made me appreciate other mommies out there who have had troubled sleepers because I was a complete zombie yesterday. I am hoping that she will get some respite when the teeth fully come out, and hopefully, she will be able to rest better at night – which would be great for both of us.
